Safety & Environmental Health Manager

We are seeking an experienced and passionate workplace safety professional to champion a culture of safety and environmental health across all our facilities. This position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining programs, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe and environmentally healthy work environment throughout each of our soybean production facilities.

The ideal candidate will bring a collaborative leadership approach, working side by side with employees; encouraging open communication; engaging team members in safety and environmental health planning and problem-solving; facilitating learning; and recognizing employees’ efforts in improving our safety and environmental health culture.

Duties/Responsibilities

Safety Program Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs, policies, and training to prevent injuries and incidents, including but not limited to:
  - Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  - Slips, Trips and Falls Prevention
  - Confined Space Entry
  - PPE
  - Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck Safety
  - Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
  - Contractor Safety
  - Hot Work Program
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify safety hazards and drive corrective actions.
- Lead thorough incident/accident investigations, reporting and root-cause analyses, ensuring lessons learned are shared and preventive measures established.
Environmental Compliance and Stewardship:
- Develop, implement and manage all applicable environmental programs, policies, training, and drive continuous improvement initiatives including, but not limited to:
  - HAZCOM
  - Chemical Inventory and Environmental Tracking
  - Air Emissions Compliance
  - Water Use and Wastewater Compliance
  - Hazardous Waste Management
  - Energy and Resource Conservation Initiatives
  - Environmental Training
  - Environmental Risk Assessments and Audits
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting to regulatory agencies.
Employee Engagement and Training:
- Foster a culture of trust and shared ownership for safety and environmental health by communicating effectively and building strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
- As a member of the Organizational Development Team, contribute to ongoing employee onboarding and training efforts and incorporate safety principles into global continuous improvement and employee engagement strategies
- Lead safety committees, employee engagement teams, and continuous improvement projects.
- Deliver engaging training and communications that empower employees to actively participate in safety initiatives, including, but not limited to:
  - Safety bulletins and alerts
  - Newsletter articles
  - Safety dashboards and visual performance reports
  - Other targeted communications to promote awareness and highlight progress

Collaboration and Leadership:

- Serve as a trusted advisor and resource for all team members, managers, and leadership.
- Partner with cross-functional teams — including production, maintenance, HR, quality, food safety and technical systems — to align safety initiatives with operational goals.
- Stay current on regulatory changes, industry trends, and best practices, adapting programs as needed to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field preferred.
5+ years of experience in safety and environmental health in a manufacturing, industrial, agricultural or related industry.
Deep understanding of OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, and industry-specific safety practices.
Demonstrated ability to engage employees, lead through influence, and build a strong culture of safety.
Proven success implementing safety management systems (SMS) or behavior-based safety programs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal; able to engage, coach, and motivate employees at all levels.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Ability to utilize tools and spreadsheets for data analysis, monitor program performance, identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), or equivalent credentials a plus.
Travel, as necessary (approx. 10%), to all facilities.
Hands on in all aspects of safety program execution. Application of physical effort as a safety professional to ensure organization achieves the desired outcomes in program development and personnel training.
Ability to frequently bend, squat, climb, sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements and push/pull.
Must be able to walk throughout the facilities and grounds to conduct internal audits and employee training independently.
